End of Course Reflection
Throughout this health informatics course for advanced nursing practice, I have gained valuable insights into the pivotal role that informatics plays in shaping the future of nursing. One new item that I learned in this course advanced nurse practitioners can influence the informatics process in healthcare. I learned that APNs work to improve the quality of care delivered through research and quality improvement initiatives that leverage informatics data to drive innovation. I also learned that APNs do not work alone, but pair with interprofessional teams to implement valuable informatics systems that can influence patient outcomes. For example, I have come to appreciate the role of health information technologists and informatics nurse specialists in shaping the use of health information technology.

One of the course objectives that was achieved in this course is CO5 which requires the advanced nurse to synthesize essential information for healthcare databases to support optimal patient outcomes. During the course, I engaged in an online search for valuable data to identify technology tools that can be used to engage patients and families. Focusing on patients with newly diagnosed Leukemia, I was able to identify videoconferencing and the use of chatbots as the most valuable technologies for designing patient education. I learned that it is important for APNs to review data from reliable sources to identify evidence-based technologies that can support patient care.
The information learned in this course is helpful for future MSN practice because it describes the role of informatics in patient care. The advanced practice nurse can use this information to streamline workflows and ensure patient safety. Issues like patient safety and professional ethics related to informatics nursing can help the MSN practice competently and ensure quality service delivery.
