WHERE IN THE WORLD IS EVIDENCE-BASED PRACTICE?

BY DAY 3 OF WEEK 1

Share a description of the healthcare organization’s website you explored. Discuss where, if at all, evidence-based practice (EBP) is evident on the website. This could include mentions in the mission, vision, philosophy, or goals of the healthcare organization, or any other locations on the website. Then, evaluate whether the organization’s work is rooted in EBP and provide reasoning for your assessment. Lastly, elaborate on whether your findings on the healthcare organization’s website have altered your perception of the organization. Offer concrete examples to support your points.

Engage with at least two peers on different days by visiting the websites they shared and expanding on examples of EBP you find there. Alternatively, present alternative perspectives or interpretations of the information shared in your colleagues’ posts.

I reviewed the website of Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters. Evidence-based practice is prominently featured throughout the organization’s website. The hospital’s commitment to EBP is evident in various aspects, including their policies and procedures, treatment options, and pediatric residency programs. It is clear that this healthcare organization has embraced an evidence-based model.

Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) Nursing

One significant example of EBP on their website is the introduction of their new mental health hospital and outpatient center called the “Children’s Pavilion,” which opened on September 30, 2022. This state-of-the-art facility is dedicated to providing evidence-based mental health treatment options. The website provides extensive information about the Children’s Pavilion and highlights several evidence-based approaches the hospital utilizes.

The organization proudly states that the Children’s Pavilion is recognized as one of the nation’s leading pediatric mental health hospitals due to its patient and family-centered design, evidence-based treatments, academic training programs, and commitment to clinical research to drive innovation (CHKD, 2022). When describing various departments within the hospital, the organization goes into detail about the evidence-based practices employed. For instance, in the outpatient psychiatric care setting, which is delivered by Psychiatrists and Nurse Practitioners, they follow an evidence-based biopsychosocial diagnostic model that is patient-centered and family-focused (CHKD, 2018). Similarly, the acute inpatient mental health department utilizes evidence-based and proactive treatment approaches to enhance patient safety (CHKD, 2022). Even the Intensive Outpatient Program is based on a curriculum rooted in dialectical behavioral therapy, a well-established evidence-based approach (CHKD, 2022).

This organization’s reputation for delivering high-quality patient care and achieving positive patient outcomes in the community is well-known. However, exploring their website further solidified my confidence in their commitment to evidence-based practice. The explicit mention of evidence-based interventions on their website reinforces the reasons behind their outstanding patient outcomes. As a Behavioral Health Navigator in the Emergency Department, I often encounter patients and families searching for resources to support their loved ones. Knowing that the Children’s Pavilion is dedicated to evidence-based practices and high-quality care is reassuring, especially for the children in our region.
