Unit 9: Psychiatric & Dermatologic Pharmacology

Unit 9: Psychiatric & Dermatologic Pharmacology

Psychiatric & Dermatologic Pharmacology

Welcome to Unit 9!
In primary care, patients frequently seek treatment for symptoms of anxiety and depression. While primary care has its limitations in treating these conditions, it is essential to rule out physiological issues. Medications are primarily aimed at addressing physiologically-based symptoms, and this week’s focus remains on rational drug selection. Emphasis is placed on outcome evaluation, and we rely on our PMHNP colleagues to provide ongoing support for psychiatric and behavioral health management.
Additionally, this week covers the integumentary and dermatological systems. Although many medications are topical, there are also systemic treatments. The unit’s overarching theme centers on the continued significance of rational drug selection based on presenting symptoms.
