A significant aspect of primary care involves the management of infectious diseases. You will encounter antibiotics, antivirals, and antifungals—agents with which you need to become highly acquainted and develop a strong knowledge base and application skills. Invest time in studying these modules and seek supplementary resources to enhance your understanding. Some of these resources are listed in the optional books section of the syllabus. Categorizing these agents into classes and understanding their mechanisms of action can greatly facilitate comprehension. When prescribing anti-infective agents, consider factors such as sensitivity and resistance. Additionally, there are steps in the selection of antimicrobial drugs to contemplate once a diagnosis or differential diagnosis is established. It becomes apparent that an accurate diagnosis or differential diagnosis is pivotal for rational drug selection. Furthermore, special population characteristics must be taken into account.
