Core Values as a Nurse

As a nurse, my core values revolve around compassion, respect, integrity, collaboration, and excellence. I firmly believe in delivering compassionate care rooted in respect and kindness. Upholding the highest ethical standards and consistently acting with integrity are non-negotiable principles for me. I actively engage in collaboration with patients, families, and fellow healthcare professionals to ensure optimal outcomes. Striving for excellence in all facets of my practice is another cornerstone of my nursing philosophy.

Mission and Vision Statement

My mission is to provide compassionate and exceptional care to all my patients. My vision is to forge meaningful connections with others and evolve into a more confident and successful individual who not only continues to enhance myself but also influences those around me to strive for excellence.

Clifton Strengths Assessment

The CliftonStrengths Assessment unveiled five key strengths within my profile: Relator, Strategic, Learner, Analytical, and Responsibility. As a relator, I am committed to fostering and nurturing relationships with others (Rath, 2007). Building strong connections and fostering a sense of community is my focus. My strategic thinking enables me to tackle problems creatively, considering both the big picture and intricate details. Being a learner means I am perpetually seeking new knowledge and skills, driven by the motivation to continually grow and evolve (Duggan et al., 2015). My analytical capacity enables me to approach problems from multiple angles, dissecting them into manageable parts. I can discern patterns and draw valuable insights from data. Lastly, responsibility signifies my reliability and commitment to taking ownership of my work (Rath, 2007). I maintain focus and complete tasks, even when confronted with challenges. These five strengths collectively render me a well-rounded individual capable of critical thinking and effective collaboration.

Behaviors to Strengthen

The two key behaviors I aim to strengthen are my communication skills and sense of responsibility. My analytical strength presents the challenge of communicating my analyses fairly. Additionally, as responsibility is a leadership strength, I must acquire effective time management, delegation skills, and the ability to avoid overcommitting to prevent burnout. Communication is an essential aspect of nursing practice at all levels (Jankelová & Joniaková, 2021). Enhancing communication skills entails articulating my thoughts and opinions clearly and concisely (Bullington et al., 2019). This encompasses active listening, respectful and productive responses, and recognition and understanding of differing perspectives. Effective communication also entails resolving disagreements positively and respectfully with others. As highlighted by Broome and Marshall (2021), developing responsibility is equally crucial. It involves maintaining focus, completing tasks even in challenging circumstances, and being accountable for my actions. Reliability and trustworthiness are fundamental, as is the ability to work independently and in teams. Developing these two key behaviors will enable me to collaborate more effectively and become a more productive and successful individual.

Development Plan

My development plan comprises two primary objectives: enhancing communication skills and strengthening my sense of responsibility. I have incorporated feedback from colleagues who suggested improving these skills to enhance my leadership. To enhance communication, I intend to practice active listening, respond respectfully and productively in conversations, and strive to comprehend and appreciate diverse viewpoints. I will also work on my public speaking skills by actively participating in meetings and group discussions. To bolster my sense of responsibility, I will set deadlines and adhere to commitments, fostering accountability and ownership of my work. I will also concentrate on maintaining organization and focus on tasks.

I intend to implement this development plan to realize my vision. By actively listening in conversations, I will better understand and appreciate diverse viewpoints. Improving my public speaking skills and increasing participation in meetings will also be vital. Furthermore, I will prioritize organization, adhere to deadlines, and fulfill commitments, enhancing my sense of responsibility. By strengthening my communication skills and sense of responsibility, I will cultivate meaningful connections with others and evolve into a more confident and successful individual.

Conclusion

Nurses are entrusted with the responsibility of delivering quality care, and recognizing one’s strengths and weaknesses is crucial for success. Setting objectives to enhance areas of weakness is essential for nurses to become more confident and successful individuals. Tools like the CliftonStrengths Assessment can aid in identifying strengths and crafting development plans to achieve personal goals. Additionally, self-reflection is a vital part of this process, enabling nurses to heighten awareness of their strengths and weaknesses, and develop the requisite skills for success.
