Look at the resources and find a change that you believe is needed in your workplace.
It could be a change needed to address issues you identified in your Workplace Environment Assessment from Module 4. Or it might be a new change that wasn’t discussed before. It’s a good idea to talk to your workplace leaders and colleagues to refine your ideas.
Think about how you would put this change into action and how you would explain it to your workplace leaders.

The Assignment (5-6 minute narrated PowerPoint presentation):

Change Implementation and Management Plan

Create a 5-6 slide PowerPoint with narration that lays out a plan to implement the changes you’re proposing.

Your presentation should last 5-6 minutes.

Your Change Implementation and Management Plan should include:

A brief summary of the problems in your workplace right now (this can include what you found in your Workplace Environment Assessment).
An explanation of the change you’re suggesting.
Reasons why this change is important, and how it will improve your workplace.
Details about what kind of change it is and how big it will be.
Identifying the people who will be affected by the change.
Naming the team that will manage the change (and their roles).
A strategy for communicating your proposed change.
A plan to reduce any risks connected to the change you’re suggesting.

Alternate Submission Method

You can also use Kaltura Personal Capture to record your narrated PowerPoint. To do this, first create your PowerPoint slides. Then, follow the instructions in the Kaltura Media Uploader guide in your classroom to learn how to use Personal Capture. The guide will help you download the tool and understand how to use it. When you’re ready to start recording, you can turn off your webcam so that only “Screen” and “Audio” are on. Start your recording and then open your PowerPoint in slide show view. Once you finish recording, follow the instructions in the “Posting Your Video in the Classroom Guide” on the Kaltura Media Uploader page to know how to submit your video. For this option, in addition to submitting your video, you must also upload your PowerPoint file with speaker notes.

Plan for Implementing and Managing Change – Nursing 6501: Interprofessional Organizational and Systems Leadership – Walden University

Summary of the Current Healthcare Issue

oEffective communication and teamwork are crucial for interprofessional clinical teams.

oLack of teamwork skills and communication problems increase medical errors.

oIn our Labor & Delivery (L&D) unit, issues like poor teamwork and communication have caused:

oRudeness among team members

oJob dissatisfaction and staff turnover

oLow patient satisfaction

oLower quality of maternal care

Good communication and teamwork are essential for safe, high-quality patient care (Yu et al., 2020). Many medical mistakes happen because of poor teamwork and communication (Yang et al., 2017). In our hospital, these issues in our L&D team have led to rudeness among team members, which has caused job dissatisfaction, lower patient satisfaction, and lower quality care for mothers.

Simulation-Based TeamSTEPPS Training and Impact

oThe change we’re proposing:

oTeam Strategies and Tools to Enhance Performance and Patient Safety (TeamSTEPPS) training

o

oThis training improves teamwork and communication in healthcare teams.

o

oIt builds teamwork and better cooperation among the L&D team.

o

oIt helps the L&D team to listen better, be more compassionate and honest, and resolve conflicts effectively.

We want to make our L&D team work together better and improve how they communicate. To do this, we’ll use Team Strategies and Tools to Enhance Performance and Patient Safety (TeamSTEPPS) training. TeamSTEPPS is a system made by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) and the Department of Defense (DoD). It helps healthcare teams work together and communicate better, which helps patients (AHRQ, n.d.). TeamSTEPPS training focuses on having a clear purpose, active listening, compassion and honesty, being flexible, and resolving conflicts. All of these things are important for healthcare teams to work well together (Buljac-Samardzic et al., 2020).

Type and Scope of the Change

oPeople affected: Obstetricians, midwives, doctors, and other staff who work with mothers.

o

oTraining method: Training on-site Assignment: Plan for Implementing and Managing Change

o

oWhat we’ll practice: How to manage postpartum hemorrhage as a group

o

oSkills we’ll focus on: Supporting each other, watching the situation, leading, and talking to each other

This training will include obstetricians, midwives, doctors, and others who work with mothers during vaginal or cesarean delivery, and when mothers have postpartum hemorrhage (PPH). These people will practice how to manage PPH together. They will use the skills they learn from TeamSTEPPS training, like supporting each other, watching the situation, leading, and talking to each other (Buljac-Samardzic et al., 2020).

Change Management Team

As we said before, managing PPH complications is a team effort. So, when we use simulation-based TeamSTEPPS training, it will include nurses, obstetricians/gynecologists, certified nurse midwives, and anesthesia providers in the L&D unit. Others include a nurse educator to provide training, Information & Technology staff to provide, support in the integration of the training information into the simulator, the hospital’s CEO, chief obstetrician, and the chief nurse to offer leadership support the evaluation of the project.

Communication Plan

The project manager, the nurse leader, and the nurse manager will be very important in the change process. They will help communicate everything about the change, like why we need to work together and communicate better, what the solution is, why it’s important, what we need to do it, how we’ll know if
