Overview

As a result of your readings, you can now recognize that there are countless drivers that shape social change. From social media communication and censorship in China, to the election of an LGBTQ+ president in Chile, or even a local school organizing a campaign to stop plastic water bottle usage in schools—social change occurs in large and small ways every day. For this project, you will reflect on your own value system and consider what social issue is most important to you. I am deeply committed to addressing healthcare disparities, particularly for African American women with a family history of diabetes. I am passionate about exploring this issue from the perspective of African American women of a certain age. Additionally, I am eager to discuss how social change can revolutionize the future of healthcare in America. I have included sources from my schools library, if you can not access the sources please attempt to locate similar sources.

Directions

For this project, you will draft an article for publication in a local magazine, professional organization newsletter, or online forum. For this article, you will write about a social issue of personal significance to you (The future of healthcare in America). Your article will state your position, explain the impact of that issue on society, and examine that issue from varying perspectives. You will support your article with a minimum of four sources from the Shapiro Library.

Your article should include the following criteria:

2. Explain reasons why this social issue occurs.

1. Describe how similar historical events influence how you understand the social issue today.
